What if

Harold Camping was wrong about the world coming to an end 2011, and now it’s 2012 and there are those who say the Mayan calendar points to a termination point on December 21st.  Just reading that sentence probably prompted a slight smile, but what if this really was the year for time to end?

I’m not an alarmist and not the least bit concerned about predictions from an ancient calendar, yet such featured news causes me to reflect on what Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:8, “eagerly look forward to His glorious return.”

 As 2012 begins, what if we all renewed our commitment to live like this was the last year before Christ came back, or the final year of our life on earth?  We may live to see the dawning of many more years, but living like it was our last year on earth could have wonderful effects on everything we do.

   Imagine what might happen if …all of us made a commitment to be in Sunday School and Worship every Sunday in 2012?

 …all of us made a commitment to either read through the entire Bible in 2012 or utilize another strategy for seriously studying God’s Word?

 …all of us made a commitment to specifically pray for spiritual awakening in America every week in 2012?

…all of us made a commitment to share the gospel with at least 52 people in 2012?

 …all of us made a commitment to invite someone to Sunday School and Worship every single week in 2012?

 …all of us made a commitment to give God complete control of our time and finances in 2012?

 …all of us made a commitment to diligently seek God alone, with our family, with our church, and with a mentor in 2012?

 …all of us made a commitment to make relationships matter most in 2012?

 It might just be the kind of year we would hope to repeat in 2013… if we get the chance.
